Club News - April 2011

Well what a month, the driest February and early March for many years and then the rain came. The February Medal Round was played in fine weather with Jeff Levey in fine form winning the monthly medal with a nett 69, Rick Donaldson was second with a nett round of 71 and John Seyffer finish third with his nett 72. On Saturday 5 March Steve Atkins won the Stapleford comp. beating John Rose and Shelia Young on a countback with all three scoring 37 points. Weather wise, Wednesday 9 March, was another great day and Peter Dumbrell blitz the field with his exceptional score of 44 points. Gordon Thomson would have had every right to feel a little disappointed as his score of 40 points would have won on most other days. Ron Bower was third with 35 points. Those who played in the morning of Saturday 12 March had great weather once more but, unfortunately, for those who played in the afternoon were swamped by torrential rain when a storm hit around 3 in the afternoon. Those who got up early took all the places and Suzanne Greer was on fire having an outstanding score of +7 and John Seyffer had to settle with second place with another outstanding score of +6. John Rose was third with a +1. Saturday 19th March started out with us teeing off in a slight drizzle of rain but by 11:00am it was bucketing down. It was not the best of days to hold our first 2 person team event for the year. It was a "Stableford Multiplier" (the team members multiply their scores together for each hole). It could be called the apology comp. especially if one member scores a 3 or 4 and their partner scores 0 on a hole. The weather kept the numbers down but it did not stop some good scores being carded. Harry Brittain and Steve Atkins won with a score of 70 points and John Seyffer teaming with Ray Michelsons finished second with 63 points. Peter Dumbrell won the individual with 38 points beating Harry Brittain on a countback.
