Club Voice - June 2010

Kangaroo Valley Golf Club News

Barrie Young

Although we all know we urgently need rain it has been great weather for golf with the days often starting rather cold and foggy but turning into wonderful warm days. 25 April was no different for our Monthly Medal round which was won by Mark Russell from the Wentworth Club with a great Nett 66. Joan Edwards and Rod Ashbolt tied for second, each having a Nett 67 and Gordon Thomson finished fourth with a Nett 69. As Women play from the Red tees with a par 74 and men play off the blue tees with a par of 71 Joan and Rod finished with equal tied for first for the Medal. It was great to have Barrie Young join us for a round on one of his rare visits from the USA. I know he is an avid reader of the KV Voice so we are looking forward to your permanent return to the Valley. We don’t have -25o winters. Being the ANZAC Day long weekend a  Stableford comp was played on the Monday and was won by Norris Ingrisch scoring 38 points. Dinny Mandalis was second with 36 points and Suzanne Greer third with 33.

May started with some great scores, with Sheila Young winning on Saturday 1 May with a great score of 42 points. Ron Bower wasn’t too far behind with 40 points and Ray Michelsons’ 36 was sufficient to take third place. Wednesday 5 May again saw some more good scores, Suzanne Greer won with 40 points, Gordon Thomson was second with 39 points and John Rose finished third with 36.

On Saturday 8 May we had the additional challenge of only being allowed to carry 3 clubs plus a putter. Amazingly Ray Michelsons was still able to score 36 points, same score he had the week before with a full set, winning comfortably from Sheila Young with 30 points and Suzanne Greer in third place with 29 points. Saturday 15 May was a versus par comp and was won by Doris Hoare, a visitor from Belmont, with +5. Joan Edwards beat Dinny Mandalis, on a countback, for second place with +3.
